Douglas County Search and Rescue Team, Inc. (DCSAR) is a non-profit, all volunteer team providing search and rescue, other emergency response and outdoor safety education to the citizens of Douglas County, Colorado.  The team also responds to requests for assistance from other search and rescue (SAR) teams in Colorado and around the US.

DCSAR operates under the authority of the Douglas County Sheriff, whose communications center alerts the team through an alphanumeric paging system and maintains communications with the team through the county radio system.  Calls range from searches for lost or missing persons in residential areas to rescues of persons injured in the mountains.  DCSAR may be the primary agency conducting the SAR operation or it may be assisting one of the fire or police departments within the county, Colorado State Parks or the US Forest Service. Callouts this year

DCSAR was formed in September of 1998 and had its first meeting in October, 1998.   El Paso County Search and Rescue, just to the south of Douglas County, loaned the team equipment, provided instruction and allowed the team to use its facility for training.   Team members went through intensive training that fall and the team was declared operational in December.   The team's first mission, for two missing dirt bike riders on Rampart Range, was on February 10, 1999.  The missing bikers were located cold but alive, in near blizzard conditions, by one of our team members.

The team is dependent on grants and donations for much of its income.  Being a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, all donations to DCSAR are tax-deductible as charitable contributions.

It is the policy of DCSAR and the Douglas County Sheriff not to charge for search and rescue.
